Art Attack

W.A.L.T: create artist inspired artwork (Raewyn Harris)

This week it was art attack week 
and we did koru art inspired by
Raewyn Harris.

I learnt that if you put chalk on a piece of paper dye washes it away and the dye takes over.

I learnt that complementary colours are opposite each other on the colour wheel. The complementary colours I used were green and purple, and pink and yellow. 



My next step if I do another one is to add more detailed patterns and do another koru.

I am proud of what I have achieved.

T2 writing

Mackenzi, Mackenzi is 10. Her birthday is one day before mine, which is the 12th of July, so hers is the 11th.


Mackenzi's favourite food is teriyaki chicken sushi. Her favourite colour is blue because it suits her.


Mackenzi's mum’s name is Michele and her dad's name is Allan. Mackenzi has 2 brothers, Brock and Nathan. Brock is 14 and Nathan is 26.

Maths-Measurement

I.A.L.T find the perimeter and area of shapes 

The perimeter is the distance around the outside of a shape. To find the perimeter you add all of the measurements together.

The area is the distance on the inside of a shape. To find the area of a shape you need to times the length and the width.

What have I learned?
That if you try hard enough to do research you can find heaps of words that mean the same thing
How to think of different words to replace other words e.g. words to use instead of said

The first is the word we were given and the second word was the word that I came up with that means the same thing.

    1. Replied - responded

    3. Announcement - speech
    4. Vanished - disappeared
    5. Spinning - turning
    6. Clumsy - Helpless
    7. Demanded - yelled
    8. Disappear - vanished

I found this easy because I know lots of different words and what they mean.

What is my next learning step?

I can use several pieces of information to make inferences (on information not directly in the text).

Dance - Term 2

I’ve enjoyed doing the dance as a whole Year 6 Hub because we haven't done an activity like this before.

I learnt how to do the Mexican wave with my hands. I found it difficult at the start, but I learnt how to do it in the second week.

I would now like to do more activities like this with the Year 6 Hub from now on.

When the dragon had hatched, crawling out of its shell onto her bed, Zoya knew that her life would never be the same again.
She had brought the dragon far away from her village; away from the people who would hurt it and take it away from her. As she held it in her hands, Feeling its claws affectionately digging into her fingers through her gloves, Zoya knew exactly what she had to do. What they had to do. Together.
The dragon gazed at her. She could see the flames burning within its eyes. It was totally dependent on her, as a newborn child is to its mother. And yet, strangely, she felt dependent upon the dragon as well; dependent upon what it was and what it would become in time.
They would become inseparable.Their futures were entwined. Their adventures were only just beginning....

Zoya went to the shop and bought some dragon food. When he was eating she thought of a name, but she saw his green sleek skin and saw his flaming eyes and his little claws. Hmmmmm she thought, what's a good name for you? She thought, what about Joe? Zoya walked through her hometown with Joe in her backpack.
"ZOYA?" said her dad. She jumped thinking someone had noticed that she had a dragon in her bag, so she said,
"don't worry it won't harm anyone!" Then her dad found out about the dragon the next day when he came into her room to put washing on her bed and heard a noise in the wardrobe. He didn't tell Zoya till the next day and then told Zoya.
”I heard some noise coming from your wardrobe, so I took a look and saw the little creature. I thought it was cute, so i'm fine with you keeping it, but just for a few months!” They both kept it a secret for a few months and then told everyone and then everyone came round to see Joe. 

Joe was huge now so Zoya and her and her parents got rides on Joe around the world and they lived happily ever after.

Multicultural week

Last week I participated actively in a range of learning experience around ‘Multicultural week’

WHAT: I was involved in a range of learning experiences for Multicultural week. I made a paper cut out spring, and picked up jelly beans with chopsticks, it was hard at first but then it got easier.

SO WHAT:
I learnt how to use chopsticks.
I enjoyed getting my henna done by Dania's Aunty
I was most fascinated by learning that in Russia it can get down to -71 degrees.

NOW WHAT
A question I have is how many underground buildings are there in Russia?

Week 4 blog          LITERACY WEEK




What?   This week was literacy week we did many things such  as scavenger hunt, stop drop and write, dress up day,guess the teacher and guess the book.

So what?   What I really enjoyed was. Siraya Nicholas coming in and sharing her series of books with Oaklands school and reading a chapter. I think it was really interesting when she was reading about when the two girls were riding the horses through the hills on bush night.

Me and Ella are working on a pool diorama for the future Oaklands school.

So What?

I have enjoyed heaps because it is art and art is my favourite subject of all time.

Now What?

The next thing we are doing is sticking the changing rooms down and maybe putting a roof on them.

What ?                                                                                              for the last two weeks we have been going to star fish swim school.


So what ?                                                                                         I have enjoyed going to star fish swim school.Something I learnt was butterfly but it is hard to bring your legs up at the same time as your arms.

Word Study - Blog 1 term 3

What?
I am learning to understand how words are formed using roots, prefixes and suffixes.

So What?
I have learned that words that have the root hydra- and aqua- mean water. For example hydrate which means to take water in.

I have learned that words that have the root spect- mean look / see. For example spectacular. The opening ceremony was a spectacular view.

Now what?
I feel that I have a spectacular understanding of the root words aqua-, hydra-, and spect-

What? I shared my learning at my Student Led Conference.


So What?
I went really well at my conference. My writing goal was to use a variety of sentence starters. I gave my self a 10/10 because its helping me with my writing.

What were you proud of?
I am proud of my finishing my art before my student led conference.

My reading goals

IALT: develop my reading comprehension skills


Recently I took an asTTle reading test. I read a number of texts and answered a range of questions to check my understanding and comprehension. The aim is to take a test at a level where I will make some errors so that I can identify what I need to work on to be a more successful reader.


I have looked at the results of my test and identified 3 goals for this term.


My reading goals are:


[1] Consistently read to understand the meaning of a text
[2] Make a conclusion or an assumption
[3] Know what different words mean


# 1 and 2 are about understanding the text, especially by thinking about the text more ‘deeply’.


# 3 is about developing my vocabulary and being able to use the information around a difficult word to make sense of it.


You can help me with [1] and [2] by asking me about the book I am reading at home;
  • about the characters, setting, plot and resolution (fiction)
  • Get me to explain why I believe the characters have acted in certain ways and how this influences the plot and outcome of the story
  • Ask me to make a conclusion about different aspects of the story and encourage me to make assumptions about characters, events, moods and what might have happened in the text if the character [s] acted, behaved, made different choices.


You can help me with [3] by;

  • encouraging me to explain in my own words what I think a word means
  • helping me to identify parts of a word that might help explain its meaning (e.g., in submarine the ‘sub’ means under so that will help with making an educated guess about the meaning of the word
  • encourage me to come up with words that have a similar meaning, or look in a thesaurus for words with similar (synonyms) and opposite meanings (antonyms).

26 April 1915

Today my heart is broken.  My best friend passed away.  It is so

sad because he was so funny and made me laugh all the time.  His

name was James.

When soldiers get wounded me and Duffy go up the steep hill and

find them and bring them down to the beach.  Then they go on the

boat to Lemnos Island if they are badly hurt but sadly some of them

die on the way there.

The smell of blood is ground into my uniform.  There are heaps of

flies round my head.  I can hear them buzzing and it is getting

really annoying.  When I am near the hospital I can hear moaning

and groaning.

I wish I was at home with my cat Sandy, stroking her warm fur safe

in my cozy house.
